Mrs. Allen's Professional Biography
Sarah Megan Allen earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2003 (magna cum laude) from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, where she studied choral conducting under Dr. Bradley Almquist. Mrs. Allen has been an instructor in vocal music, general music, piano lab and integration/aesthetic arts education for 9 years. In her duration as an educator, she has proven her outstanding ability to develop strong music education programs. Currently, Mrs. Allen conducts the Covington High School Charger Voices in Covington, TN and is the director of worship for youth and children at Oak Grove Baptist Church, in Covington, TN.
From 2010-2012, Mrs. Allen directed the Crestview Middle Charger Voices. In 2009, Mrs. Allen was awarded the prestigious Tennessee Young Music Educator of the Year Award (TMEA). Before accepting the position at CMS, she was the music teacher & honor choir director at Atoka Elementary School in Atoka, TN. In 2008-2009 schoolyear, she was the related arts chairperson. She directed several performances with the young students including, "Soul'd Out", "MIghty Minds", and several variety and talent shows. She began her teaching career as well as created and built a superior vocal music program at the Covington Integrated Arts Academy (K-8 TN value-plus school) in 2003. At CIAA, she directed the award-winning CIAA All-Star Voices for five years. In the spring of 2008, this group was selected to perform at the Tennessee State Capitol for Arts Advocacy Day by the Tennessee Arts Commission. They have also performed for famous artist(s)/musicians including Rock-N-Roll Hall of Famed, Isaac Hayes, and country music star Chely Wright. Under her tutelage, numerous CIAA students have received remarkable individual achievement in the Northwest TN Honor Choir, the West TN Solo and Ensemble Festival, and the Tennessee Treble Honor Choir, as well as superior ratings in the West TN Junior Choral Festival. In 2008, Mrs. Allen was selected by the Tennessee Arts Commission to conduct arts leader workshop at Value Plus's Summer Workshop.
Aside from her professional public-school teaching duties, Mrs. Allen currently serves as an adjunct voice teacher for Dyersburg State Community College. She has also served on the foreign mission field as a music missionary at the Les Bons Samaritains School in St. Marc, Haiti, for world-renowned oncologist, Rodrigue Mortel, M.D. (2008). She has served as an adjunct vocal instructor at the Visible School Music and Worship Arts College (2007). She directed the Covington Community Youth Mass Choir (2007), and was guest clinician of the Combined Adult Choirs at the City-wide Community Thanksgiving Worship Service in 2004. She is a vocal soloist, performer, and actress, and conducts a weekly private vocal studio. She is the founder, owner, and director of the annual Tipton County summer vocal music & drama camp, “Encore” Vocal Workshop", since 2004.
From 2005-2011, she served as the Director of Youth Ministries and Worship Arts at Holly Grove CP Church where she lead the youth drama, dance and worship band. She also served as the keyboard accompanist and assisted in leading corporate worship each Sunday at Holly Grove Church. In 2011, she served as the interim worship leader & choir director at Central Baptist Church, in Brighton, Tn.
Mrs. Allen is a member of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), the Tennessee Music Education Association (TMEA), and the West Tennessee Vocal Music Educators Association (WTVMEA).
